The World As I See It
by Sweetie, as translated by her human
I have given this a great deal of thought. Most of it while napping, which is, I find, when the best thinking happens.
The world, from where I sit — and I sit in many excellent places — is a perfectly reasonable place. It is humans who complicate it. You rush. You worry. You set alarms. I have never once set an alarm and I have never missed anything worth waking up for.
There is a shelf in the library that catches the afternoon light at precisely the right angle. I go there every day. I do not check the time beforehand. It is always there. This is what trust looks like.
A slower pace is not laziness. It is wisdom with better posture. When you stop rushing from one thing to the next, you begin to notice things — the warmth of a good chair, the smell of old books, the particular quality of a Tuesday afternoon. These are not small things. These are, I would argue, the whole point.
I do not understand why humans are always in such a hurry to arrive somewhere. I am already here. Here is quite nice.
“Peace comes from within,” I said to my human this morning. She was rushing. She did not stop. I have made a note of this and will bring it up again after my nap.
